Rockstar Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take 2 Interactive, was founded in January 1999 to publish unique, cutting-edge game titles specifically for the youth market. Take 2's Vice President of Development, Sam Houser was named Rockstar's President.
In keeping with the company name, Houser announced that he had assembled a development team made up of people who had formerly worked as night club promoters, record label owners and creators of music videos and commercials. "We want to change the way the media looks at the game industry and give it some personality, which has been noticeable by its absence until now," said Houser. ~ Dave Beuscher, All Game Guide
