It has now been over a year since Wii Fit launched on the Wii, and in that time, a new genre has been created: the exercise game. Eager to jump on the bandwagon, third-party publishers for the Wii and DS starting pumping out workout programs, but none of them were really able to match the variety and intensity of a gym workout with a personal trainer. Even Wii Fit, which I have been a very vocal fan of, had some serious shortcomings, and I was hoping that EA Sports Active could take the exercise game to the next level. I have now spent one week with Sports Active, and I must say that I am really pleased with how far EA has taken the workout on the Wii.
Let the Wii Remote™ controller be your bat as you join Mario™, Luigi™, Peach™ and the rest of the gang in a rocking, socking baseball extravaganza.
The latest incarnation of NBA Live has a whole slew of new features, like Freestyle Control, which lets you use the right analog stick to express your game with the step-back move, triple-threat moves, pass interceptions, and more. There are significant changes to the rebounding logic so players react in a more realistic manner to missed shots. Over 30 new rebounding animations allow for a wider variety of pulls off the glass. Motion capture was performed with two to four athletes simultaneously and is used for specific contact situations like post moves, pick-and-roll plays, and drawing the charge.
Enhanced CPU logic and AI allow for more effective fast breaks, with open players cutting to the hoop for scoring opportunities, and the fine-tuned turbo buttons afford players a wider array of in-game strategies. There are also enhanced dribbling and player movements, player-specific signature moves, and more responsive shot blocking. In addition, real NBA coaches roam the sidelines, and there is dramatic camera coverage of in-game and out-of-play sequences. You will hear what it’s like to be on the court with all-new player calls, as well as court and arena sound effects. Classic jerseys give gamers a chance to relive their teams’ glory days in authentic gear.
Picture yourself returning to the world of SSX, one year later. Things on the SSX World Circuit have changed a lot in one year. Many of the locales look familiar, but the course designers have been burning the midnight oil during the off season creating all new and insane trick versions of the courses that will allow the riders venues to let in the popular "Showoff" (trick) mode. In addition, track gurus have put in a multitude of new paths and shortcuts, as well as two completely new stops on the SSX World Circuit. New tracks, environments and configurations allow riders to pump up their trick repertoire and introduce an assortment of new "Uber" tricks to be displayed on the unique Showoff (trick) courses as well as on the Circuit. In year one, SSX appeared exclusively on the PlayStation 2. SSX Tricky is raising the stakes, debuting on the Sony Playstation2, Nintendo GAMECUBE and Xbox video game system by Microsoft.
