Tons and tons of stuff to cover, so we'll keep this short and sweet.
We were given a chance to play a few matches of the Metal Gear Online Beta. Lined up with 7 other players I felt confident my Red Team would smoke the Blue Team. I was right. After signing in to the match, I was given the choice of which weapons I wanted to bring to the fight. You can choose from three types to take: a heavy weapon, a pistol and some type of grenade/claymore. Of course, this being Metal Gear, you could also choose a dirty girl magazine to distract your opponent instead of a grenade. Guess which I picked?
The match started and while there was no character customization for this demo, there apparently will be in the final build. The game controls just like MGS does in the regular game, including the Subsistence style camera movement with the right analog stick. The scoreboard is located on the top of the screen with a countdown clock for match time. Combat moved at a quick pace on the small 4-8 player map we were on. While I couldn't find someone to sneak up on in a carboard box (yes, they are standard for all characters) to execute a stealth kill, or any CQC moves, it is apparently possible as the guy next to me pulled one off.
I can't wait for this Beta to start, and I've never cared about playing a game early before. We'll have more on MGS Online later this weekend.

The gameplay which I somehow forgot to mention was tight. It played just like the regular game, except the enemies were a little smarter. Of course, no one could resist looking at the dirty magazines I laid as a trap. Including my own character who set it down and began staring at it immediately. Oh Kojima.
I would have waited in line for a shot at MGS4.....
I can't wait for the Beta to start.
Can we customize the stealth box in the full version?
How was the gameplay?
How was the dirty magazine?
