DC COMICS

Birds of Prey #121

For those who haven’t been keeping up with DC’s resident team of superwomen, this issue is a great point for you to join the rest of us. What makes this issue even better than any other jumping on point issue is the start of a new storyline where the Joker finally meets back up with Oracle (Barbara Gordon/Batgirl), who he confined to a wheelchair when shooting her in The Killing Joke. If there was ever a rematch I wanted to see more than this, I don’t know what it was. You can find out what happens yourself for $2.99. Forget “Batman RIP“, this is the Bat-story everyone will be talking about this month.

Scalped #20

More revelations from Carol’s past promise to rock Officer Bad Horse to his core. You really should be reading this book. I’ve tried just about everything I can to get you to try it. I’m not going to quit. There are very few books out there that capture the essence of great crime and noir storytelling. Scalped is one of those books. Even if you’re not so sure that modern crime fiction is something you like, you don’t know until you try. Trust me, for $2.99, there’s no reason for you not to find out. Jason Aaron’s writing is so sharp you’ll be wishing this gets picked up for film or TV adaptation immediately.

MARVEL COMICS

Amazing Spider-Man #568

John Romita JR returns to pencil ASM this month, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m not quite sure how this “New Ways to Die” storyline is going to work out, but I’m willing to give it a chance after how great the last arc was. Despite how sour the taste of “One More Day” was, I’m having a pretty fun time reading the new adventures of my favorite neighborhood wallcrawler. You can too for just $3.99.

Captain America #41

Just start reading this. Okay? It’s $2.99. Consistently the best book on the shelf at any given moment. Do me a solid and enjoy what Ed Brubaker and Mike Perkins are creating.

Guardians of the Galaxy #4

Look no further than Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy for pure space adventure. It doesn’t matter if you missed Annhiliation, you can still enjoy the hell out of this book. For $2.99, not only are you getting a solid tale, but you’re also getting some top notch characters that have been underutilized for years getting a chance to shine. This book is quietly sneaking up on a few others for best new series. Don’t miss out on why.

No trade again this week. Enjoy the light week, it certainly won’t be like this very often.

See you next week.
