DMZ #30

When we last left the DMZ, a guerilla campaign to elect a new leader had kicked into gear. What that means for reporter Matty Roth should be revealed here, in part two of "Blood in the Game." Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli have really been putting out a top notch book every month. If you guys haven't taken my advice yet on this book, do so starting now. I have a feeling this arc will change the landscape of the DMZ for the foreseeable future. $2.99 for some sweet landscaping is a pretty good deal. I used to be a landscaper. This joke is horrible.

The Perhapanauts #1

I'm going to let you in on a little known comic book geek secret: Whenever you see a cover featuring Sasquatch, a chupacabra and a ghost running through a graveyard filled with well endowed statues and wolves stalking in the background, you have to buy it. That's just a rule. Now, if you're not one for rules, that's all well and good. But there's a sasquatch, a chupacabra and a ghost working as a team in this book. Your $3.50 should already be in your hand, awaiting deposit at your local comic shop. And just so you know, this book is written by Todd DeZago. He of Tellos and Young Justice. Still nothing? Okay, just take my word for it that he's good.

MARVEL COMICS

Captain America #37

I will never stop trying to get you to read this book. As a matter of fact, why aren't you reading this book? Is it because you aren't sure about the look of the book? I can assure you the art is stellar. Steve Epting has been fantastic as the regular penciller. As have been fill-ins Mike Perkins, Lee Weeks and Butch Guice. Do you not think you'll be interested in the simple plots of super-hero comics? The writing has been ridiculously great. You don't like his Daredevil, fine. You dislike what he's doing in Uncanny X-Men, whatever. Ed Brubaker has taken three years to perfectly craft this story. Three years of planning and execution. Right now, he's at the top of his game. Beginning the third act of "The Death of Captain America," this issue is guaranteed to deliver. I can't throw my $2.99 at the clerk fast enough.

Captain Marvel #5

The conclusion to Brian Reed and Lee Week's mini about Mar-Vel and the mystery surrounding his return to the Marvel Universe. Not surprisingly, Lee Week's art is the reason I keep picking this up. Nothing against Brian Reed, but honestly, before this series I could give a crap about Capain Marvel. But MARVEL knew how to get to me. You had me at Lee Weeks. You had me at Lee Weeks. In all seriousness, this final issue ties in with MARVEL's big blockbuster, Secret Invasion, so there'll be some Skrully goodness going on. Also, I don't know if you heard, but the series is drawn by Lee Weeks. He's pretty f'n good. Find out for yourself for only $2.99.

The Damned: Prodigal Sons #1

Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt had a surprise hit when The Damned hit shelves last year. I enjoyed Brian Hurtt's art on Queen and Country, so I picked it up since I figured the book would at least look good. Little did I know how interesting the book would be. The story centers around Eddie, a man who can't quite seem to stay dead, working both sides of the mafia wars between the demons and the humans during the Prohibition. Yeah, I know, that's one hell of a premise. It appears as though some people are getting a little tired of Eddie, and want him dead. Permanently. Do yourself a favor and pick this up. You'll dig it. And even though I told you to pick it up because you'd like it, you'll still be surprised you actually did like it. That's a great feeling for just $3.50.
