what a way to start the summer season! i was completely blown away by this. as soon as the credits rolled i was tugging on
hubby's sleeve, asking "can we come back to see this again?" downey is predictably great as, well, robert downey jr with more money and a genius brain, and gwyneth was nicely understated as the horribly-named pepper pots. an unrecognizable jeff bridges was appropriately evil as stane, and terrence howard was good but underused - i really hope they bring him back in sequels as war monger.
if you haven't seen it yet, do yourself a favor and STAY THROUGH THE CREDITS. i promise, you won't be disappointed.

it's loud, it's psychedelic, the dialogue is a bit corny - hey, it's a kid's movie! but it looks and feels just like the cartoon, including a couple of pitch-perfect shots and a really lovely use of the theme song in one memorable scene (which helped slightly to make up for the really wretched cover of the theme song that plays under the credits). if i had kids i'd much rather be watching this than any one of the hundreds of bland "family-friendly" moral tales that come out each year. bonus: as an adult, if you know anything about the wachowskis, you can spend the movie spotting fetishes!

one word - BORING. so long, so slow, so poorly paced... i was very disappointed, and i didn't even love the first one so i wasn't expecting that much. way too much expository dialogue, the religious angle was VERY heavy-handed, and poor special effects combined to make this feel very cheesy and uninteresting.

ok, ok, i know - it's not 'raiders'. but it was still a heck of a lot of fun to watch. ford is in top form, blanchett is predictably awesome, leboeuf is predictably annoying, and the chase scenes are great fun. buy some popcorn, sit back, and just enjoy.

here's the thing about this franchise: i don't feel like either of these movies are especially *good*. they just miss on a lot of levels; the dialogue is cheesy, the character development is minimal at best... but they are so freaking COOL that i'm willing to overlook all that other stuff. the cinematography, casting, effects... man, just so, so cool.

boy was i psyched for this, and boy was i disappointed. the 3D stuff was cool, and brendan fraser was affable and goofy as usual. but it took SO LONG to get to the good stuff! i don't need backstory people - i'm here to see lava and dinos and crazy underground shit.

i downloaded this free app onto my iPhone because the description said it was an MMO. it's basically glorified bejeweled, similar to puzzle quest. translation: it's mindless yet hopelessly addicting. also, did i mention it was free?

it's true! i've gone over to the dark side! a dedicated wii fanboy all my life, hubby recently bought the PS3 and PSP and, i have to say, i love them both. the PS3 gets my vote because it's the only console that makes NO NOISE WHATSOEVER when it's on.

A side-scrolling platform that was (a) claymation and (b) actually kind of hard! Also, it has the best soundtrack EVER. And, just in case you want to know, it's not pronounced "school-monkeys".

Finally got around to seeing Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and I enjoyed every minute of it. I've actually watched it quite a bit in hopes of memorizing the songs. Nathan Fillion is the only one that really doesn't have a singing voice. I think that's funny.
