- Little Girl Inspired by GTA to save family
- Posted 2 months, 2 weeks ago by BurningStickman
Kotaku's got a great story up about a preteen girl who helped pull her family out of their overturned car, in part inspired by Grand Theft Auto, according to her mother.
The family was on a roadtrip to visit relatives when their car left the road, hit a guardrail, and flipped over. The girl saw her father and mother stuck in the car, climbed out the back, and helped both parents and her younger siblings escape because she knew, from playing GTA, that overturned cars explode.
Now, I'm not going to go too much into whether an 11 year old ought to be playing GTA, or the fact that you gotta do more to a car to make it blow up than tip it over, but this story needs to be spread around.

That's interesting but the real victory would be if the only thing Grand Theft Auto IV inspired people to do was make and play video games. This could just be used as another example of how impressionable kids are.
I think it goes without saying that 11 year olds shouldn't be playing GTA.
Yeah, this isn't the strong "violence in video games isn't all bad" comeback that we we're looking for. It won't put the final nail in the coffin for any anti-gaming legislation. I mean it's nice, and all, but it's a thin argument and doesn't need a lot of press picking it apart.
It's like saying, "I tackled the Al-Qaeda terrorist because I play a lot of counterstrike and he was about to set us up the bomb! LOL!!!!!!1" It's not a rallying cry by a longshot....
Just consider it a small thorn in the side of whoever is going to pick up the Jack Thompson mantle. Speaking of the Jackster, I hope his successor rears its ugly head soon. Our culture needs an adversary. I hope we didn't beat our final boss already?!?
I'm wondering when we'll read, or see, anything about this on CNN. Highly doubtful.
see? video games inspire people to use their powers for good.
I wonder how quickly the mainstream media will pick up on this?

Who would've thunk it....did she jack another car shortly after the accident????
11 years old and playing GTA?? smooth move
