Just to prove that not every explosion is about high definition graphics and groundbreaking physics, this week I bring it back a few years. Not too long ago playing a video game meant dropping quarters into pinball machines or large, stationary units. One of the best that held up to the test of time was the Star Wars Arcade Game.

Of the dozens of times gamers would destroy the ship in future titles, this one still stands out. Look at that boom! Even back then they knew that the best graphics needed to be devoted to the payoff scene – the explosion. The games graphics are dated but the Death Star being blown into ash looks just as good as anything in Crysis or Call of Duty 4.

While this one is nice and reminds me of all of the cash I lost into this machine, I look forward to more advanced games re-imagining this film moment with better graphics then even the original movie had. Storm Troopers being sucked into space and flailing with the Euphoria engine would be impressive. Lets see it Lucasarts, don’t be afraid to experiment.
