Yesterday, EA announced that they would be developing a spin-off series to the popular PS3 and Xbox 360 skating game, skate., entitled Skate It. Both would take advantage of the console’s unique controls, with the Wii version even using the Balance Board that comes bundled with Wii Fit. At the time that was the climax of the announcement, and many gamers (myself included) sat patiently, hoping that the games wouldn’t look like crap. I am happy to report that they don’t, and the screenshots are below for both versions.

DS 

Wii 

I find the large gap in the two game's graphical styles interesting. While the DS version is opting for a somewhat realistic look, with graphics scaled down to fit the tiny processor, the Wii version is pushing the system’s limits with smooth, cartoony graphics. I can’t help but wonder if this will actually translate to the gameplay or controls, with the Wii version behaving more like Tony Hawk and the DS acting like the next-generation versions of skate. Either way, I am excited to see what EA can do with the franchise that made me forget Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater even existed.
