- Gears of War 2 to Have Language and Blood Filters
- Posted 5 months ago by Coop

In a recent article on What They Play, Epic confirmed that Gears of War 2 will feature filters to make the game more “kid friendly.” While the game will still be rated M, the options menu will allow for parents (or easily offended gamers) to turn on language and violence filters, replacing blood with sparks, and the game’s signature cursing with bleeps. You know, keeping it PC.
I could see this being something that makes it easier to get the game into younger kids hands; and further, I thoroughly expect to hear ambulance chaser Jack Thompson to use this seemingly innocent enhancement as a way to insult the industry. There aren’t many specifics yet, but if this is tied into the console’s Parental Control options I expect it to be a little harder to change than hitting a button, and it gives Epic the opportunity to get the game into more hands. I imagine that if they play their cards right they could even get a Teen version of the game, but maybe that’s asking a bit too much.
Either way, expect the blood-filled swear-fest to be released in November on the Xbox 360.
