While some people loved Guitar Hero III, I thought that it played more flat notes then its predecessor. I am not alone in this sentiment, as it also looks like the series lost many of its fans to the more polished Rock Band. Activision may not see it this way, but the sad fact for some is that the series seems to have been born and died at Guitar Hero II. Something clicked in that game, and by the time the third one was released the magic was gone.

But maybe there is hope yet. Its success has spawned a version for the Nintendo DS that is still covered in a shroud of mystery. So far all that has been released was the concept, and just a few days ago the title of the game was leaked: Guitar Hero: On Tour. That is a truly badass name. While some may say that a rhythm game for the portable system is pointless, I point to the stellar Jam Sessions of proof that it can be done. If the gameplay is suited and we don’t need to use a stupid guitar attachment, I can see the game turning out as a fine title. Better then Guitar Hero III, anyway.

Who knows? Maybe the Nintendo DS will end up becoming the place where the series breaks new boundaries.
