During a recent podcast, IGN Nintendo head Matt Casamassina has confirmed that Nintendo is set to announce a Kid Icarus Wii game at E3. Kind of. Sort of. He sounds like someone who said something they weren’t supposed to say, and then thought they had a fantastic cover up. Ah, hell, just read the quote:

"Of course [Nintendo is] going to have some E3 surprises. You know, Kid Icarus, for crying out loud, how many times do we have to say Kid Icarus? Kid Icarus is coming for crying out loud… I think we've confirmed it a billion times but no, I'm not going to say it officially.”

Kid Icarus for the Nintendo Wii has been one of those “worst-kept-secrets” situations, right up there with the GDC Gears of War 2 announcement, with different developers being attached to it over the last year. The rumor is, as of now, that Lair developer Factor 5 is going to be developing the title with a release slated for Holiday 2008.  I’d love to get excited – Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 was one of my favorite games for the Gamecube, but most gamers who have felt the sting of Factor 5 making a motion controlled flying game are shell-shocked. I am sure they Factor 5 has learned from their mistakes, like a child placing his hand on a hot stove, but I can’t say that I am confident in their abilities this generation.
