- Kojima Disappointed in MGS4?
- Posted 8 months, 3 weeks ago by Coop

In an interview with Edge Magazine, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima had some very disheartening things to say about Metal Gear Solid 4. While he doesn’t actually come out and bash the game directly, he does express extreme dissatisfaction with the final product and overall power of the PlayStation 3.
"Game-wise, it's pretty close to the original vision: you sneak into the battlefield and can choose whether to do a stealth game or interfere with the battle more directly. But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction.”
Just recently, Hideo came out and said that they had to limit the game due to the disk space on the PlayStation 3 and now he is saying there were other limitations? Either Hideo is going through his midlife crisis or something bad has happened with MGS4.
Later in the interview he expresses some displeasure in the cell processor, saying that it didn’t live up to his expectations and didn’t allow for him to make the game he had wanted to make.
“The original vision was to go ten steps further,” Kojima explains, “the reality was just one step, which isn't to say we didn't progress.”
He does try to defend his product and Sony by saying that he isn’t actually attacking the PlayStation 3, but his words do seem like unnecessary damage control months before the game has even been released. I don’t really know what would possess him to shove his foot in his mouth like this, as it could turn out to be terrible PR. Every screenshot released stirs up massive news and the title isn’t at a loss for marketing, so calling this a PR stunt would be a little insane. We will follow the game as more information is announced. Man, Konami is going to be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiissed.

Wow... Konami must be punching a puppy right now.
Like, everyone in the company gets a chance at the puppy. They're that pissed.
He definitely has those after creation blues.....
This scares me a bit but yeah he is probably being too hard on himself.
Its hard as an artist to create something that you are 100% happy with. Artists always nit-picking their creations: thinking they always could have done something better, or how they could have added something different in to change the experience. From what I've seen of the game's trailers and artwork: It looks pretty tight; then again its not my creation. I just wish they would have released this for the 360 also.
Maybe he is just having creator's remorse
awkward...
