Last night in Japan (well, last night here, it was daytime in Japan), Hideo Kojima had a press party where he “played” through the first forty or so minutes of Metal Gear Solid 4. I say “play” because anyone who has ever played a MGS game knows that the first few hours are cinematic, and any chance to play during those levels involves menial tasks like finding Snake’s backpack or clearing out the rat infestation in the King’s basement. The trailer above does have some action though, and the gameplay does look fun enough to justify a play. Then again, it is nearly impossible to distinguish if you are actually in control of any of the scenes in the trailer, but it is MGS, so…

Does this hype anyone more then they already are? If you are a fan of Metal Gear Solid, then this game looks like more of the same and you aren’t upset. If you think they suck, this game doesn’t look like it is going far to make any new friends. If the beta is any indication of what the single player will end up playing like, I will be a disappointed gamer. Then again, I have decided to give the series another chance at my heart with this new installment, so I can't wait to see how it turns out.
