- On Eve of NXE Launch, Netflix Loses Columbia Pictures Streaming
- Posted About 1 month ago by Coop

Friends, the New Xbox Experience is nearly upon us. Will it finally bring together all of the elements of the Xbox 360 we've always wanted, allowing for the system to grow better and more reliable? No, it's mainly adding Miis, more advertisements, and a new interface. One of the larger updates, however, is the Netflix deal, allowing for anything on Netflix's Instant Queue to be streamed onto the 360 (if they have an account with both companies), giving a set-top box to those who don't even know what that means. Sure, it lost the friend-sharing feature for now, but with only hours left until the download is available surely nothing else can go wrong – can it?
Yes. Yes it can. Sony Pictures Entertainment subsidiary Columbia Pictures has apparently removed its name from the list that will allow for this new addition. Several hundred titles are affected, and while still able to be streamed online and with other set-top boxes it will not make the launch of the NXE. Here’s the most recent comment from Netflix about this disappointing announcement:
"As watching instantly becomes a more prominent part of the Netflix service, our goal is to have all of our streaming content licensed for all of our partner devices. We're doing well in this area, but it will take some time before we fully achieve that goal. Today, titles regularly come in and out of license and there is a natural ebb and flow to what we have on license at any given point in time. In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console. Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly."
I think I speak for everyone who was planning to stay up until to download Ishtar through their Xbox 360 when I say, “booooo.” Hopefully this is sorted out, but I don’t expect Sony to make this easy for anyone.

It's ok, have you looked at Columbia's movie library? Sure, there's a couple gems in there...but they are essentially the shitty movie branch of Sony Pictures. I say good riddance.
