Wrath of the Lich King Information
Posted 3 days ago by Coop

Some information has been released about World of Warcraft’s second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, which will send players to Northrend to fight Arthas (eventually). The most anticipated update, the Death Knight, was finally detailed, and it appears they have actually nailed down what their plans regarding the class.

The Death Knight will be made available for everyone who has a character level 55 or over. With a limit of one per server, the Death Knight will start at level 55 with an assortment of skills and abilities and will be able to summon a Skeletal Deathcharger Mount. They will also not be using traditional mana or stamina, but instead will equip runes that are used to activate their abilities. The class seems to have a focus on defense, as they are also able to summon undead to protect them and will learn powerful, self protective buffs that should make them especially effective for fighting magic using bosses.

Other information about the game involves the new raid dungeons, which will all come in two variations for groups of 10 and 25. These are made so that leveling up from 70-80 will have players likely competing in the 25 man raids, while characters capped at the new level limit of 80 will likely be able to complete them with 10 people. Wrath of the Lich King will introduce new vehicles as well, which will function more like vehicles and less like faster versions of your character. In the past, riding on either a flying mount or a ground one was just like walking around, but WotLK plans on adding physics and inertia, which would set it apart from many other MMORPGs that never bother with either of those.

There is much more news about WotLK that I don’t understand located here for anyone interested. I haven’t played the game for two years or so now, and while it wasn’t my cup of tea it appears that it is the flavor of choice for some 10 million gamers around the world. Wrath of the Lich King is currently dated for a Fall 2008 release, but Blizzard is yet to make a set date before, so I would expect to see it sometime in February or March of 2009.
