- EA Executive Wants a Single Platform
- Posted About 1 year ago by Crossword
In an interview with the BBC, Electronic Arts executive Gerhard Florin has imagined a better world. A world where game devleopers and system manufacturers skip down together down the street as they hold hands and sing protest songs.
He said, "We want an open, standard platform which is much easier than having five which are not compatible. You don't need an Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii - the consumer won't even realise the platform it is being played on"
Yes, he seems to believe that the future of gaming involves getting a bunch of billion dollar companies to set aside their differences and make one platform that would be the best of all worlds.
Personally, I don't see it coming any time soon. That's why I stick to the old school methods of pencil and paper. Its cheaper and compatible with anyone's hardware.

this has bun an issue for years, what's stopping this from happening is you guessed it MONEY....
I'm not sure if you read the entire article Crossword...It says that things called "Set-Top" Boxes already exist in other countries. These boxes can support a few games and are basically a "boiled down PC" to quote from the article. It is not far out there for a third party to now pick up what EA wants and create a system that they will support. Since there is only really two consoles now, Nintendo & 360, I think the next generation of consoles will be interesting to look at.
I've always hoped for something like this to happen. Get Apple involved in it and you've got a sure-fire winner!
single platform = deaths to innovation, new features, and competition which could lead to better games, cheaper prices, and an overall better quality of a product.
