Beyond the Content: Grand Theft Auto 4
Posted 5 months, 1 weeks ago by Doctor Scraps

Now that I've finished the story missions for Grand Theft Auto 4 and have quite a bit of time before they release the episodic content (is it true they pushed that back to early '09?), I've started the after-story cleanup...the side missions I've left undone, acheivements, vigilante missions been keeping me busy...

And then I heard about the Ghost.

Yes, check it for yourself, but a rumor was circulating that there was a ghost in the derelict Sprunk Soda factory where you had a mission for Phil, where there was a tunnel that went underneath the factory to a secret entrance.

The place is ten times scarier when there aren't mobsters populating it. It was raining, and near nightfall when I arrived at the place, taking me a good deal of time to locate the place. The atmosphere was too perfect...empty, abandoned...only the sound of dripping water and the gushing of green liquid from a pipe at the base of the building...

After exploring for a time, and being thuroughly creeped out at being alone in this building, honestly expecting something to appear, I did as they did in the Youtube video's, I fired a shot.

"Pllleaaaasee Leeeaaavvee!!" bellowed a mournful voice.

To quote the /x/ thread at 4chan...Brix where shat.

I bumped into all kinds of things trying to find the exit, and then, sonuva...someone was shooting at me!

Down the stairs, a Biker was aiming his gun at me. Easily dispatched. Could he have been the source of the voice? I experimented...no, there was a phantom voice, who made periodic comments ranging from the "Please Leave", to more vengeful devilish tones like "That's it! You're through!", and "Alright, let's go!". After the last one, I was convinced that I needed out of there, and I was NOT going into the dark tunnel back to my car. I hauled myself back up to the upper levels and dove out a window.

...It was actually comforting to hear the sounds of traffic again, and some surly black guy spitting game on his cellphone, as opposed to the deathly quiet of the Sprunk Factory. I dusted myself off and hailed a cab back to home base in Algonquin. I had had enough adventure for one day.

Of course, that wasn't my last trip to a derelict location, but that's another story.

Amazing that a small section of the game world can evoke feelings of fear.

What I'd like to know though...is it possible to see the ghost?

Dude, if this turns out to be a hoax and I find out that I wasted my time looking for this....I'm still going to be happy because I'll think it's cool that there is at least a creepy underground place like that in the game to explore.

Dude... first of all, that story is awesome. I had no idea that there was a ghost in the game.

Secondly, this was really well written. I can actually feel the hairs standing up on the back of my neck when you recall your own fear. I am now going to have to go find that ghost.

And kill that biker.

And kill that guy on his cell phone.

Then maybe I'll go on a date.

And kill her.
