Rock Band by Numbers
Posted 5 months ago by Dominic

A few friends and I decided to create our own gaming blog called Analogcupcakes.com.  It's in a very early stage at the moment, but will have much more content soon.  It will also look a lot less like just a wordpress theme in the future.

Have you ever wondered which music distributor had the biggest influence in composing Rock Band's set list? Or perhaps which distributor has the best Rock Band songs? Well if you hate math but would like to know such mysteries someone has done the work for you.

Cheap Ass Gamer & Score Hero user, Charron, took the liberty of breaking down all of the currently released & announced Rock Band songs by label and distributor. He even categorized the availability of the songs by on-disc, bonus, and downloadable content. Here's the top distributors by percentages:

Warner: 29 (22.3%)

Sony BMG: 22 (16.9%)

Universal: 40 (30.8%)

EMI: 14 (10.8%)

Indie: 25 (19.2%)

-81 bands so far
-26 bands have multiple songs
-23 bands introduced via DLC
-54 bands that have never been in a Guitar Hero game before

     Charron evaluates the results:

"So what does this all mean? Well.... nothing, explicitly. We don't know what's the reasoning or cause behind any of these numbers. Does EMI not want to license their tracks, or do they just not have a lot of Rock Band-able songs (or does Harmonix not like them)? Was Universal easy to license? And there's a few strange outcomes- Tribe is on Warner, by these assumptions, and Fortunate Son counts as independent. And indie songs are the median group by volume."

Check my original post for the full results.

Rock Band will be like the Simpsons, it will never end. Hopefully!
