- Suda 51 Claims No More Heroes was Orginally for 360
- Posted 8 months, 1 weeks ago by Dominic
In a recent interview, composed by the chaps over at MCV, Suda 51 admits that No More Heroes was originally aimed for a 360 release.
“Originally, I’d wanted to make this game for Xbox 360, actually. [Marvelous Interactive boss] Wada-san had information about the new Wii and how the new controller would work before it came out, so that’s why he thought I should produce the game on that format.
“At the time, I didn’t really understand why, but after seeing and understanding how it works, I think it was a good choice and the controller works really well with the game.”
I'm sure he would have also liked to add, "At the time I thought third party Wii games sold." In another interview with the folks at CVG, Suda 51 vents his frustration with the game's unexpected lackluster sales.
"Whilst the sales weren't as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren't selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn't just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan.
Actually I was very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn't expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected"

Maybe there's money in this beach...
I would be pretty upset too if I made a public appearence for my game's release and no one showed up. Such was the case for the game's Japan release. The man was even giving out FREE NMH TOILET PAPER! Kotaku trasnlates from akibablog.net:
"After twenty minutes of Suda and Wada standing in front of Akihabara's Sofmap, nobody bought the game."

Personally, I know I would have already completed this game if it was released on the 360. I own a Wii, but I'm in no rush to play this on the platform. With the game's current state of sales, I'll just pick it up for $30 in a few months. That's the CAG in me speaking.
Hopefully a port is in order for both the PS3 and 360. Doesn't seem to make too much sense to keep this one exclusive to Wii.

I believe Nintendo has given up on making games to cater to the western market, and are concentrating on the Japanese one....
I agree with everything that's being discussed here.
Developers really need to step away from the gimicky mini-game ideas for the system. Those games aren't getting old, they're getting decrepit. I think I saw one die the other day.
Wii, unfortunately, isn't targeted towards gamers the likes of us. Nintendo has even said that they want the Wii to appeal to non-gamers. The only game I purchased for the system was Zelda, and the next one I will be picking up will be Brawl. Other than that, nothing appeals to me.
I was really looking forward to this game when it was first announced. But as it became closer to it's release, my love for the Wii quickly diminished. I wasn't even aware the game came out when it finally released.
I wish I could play a demo of this game. Might give me more hope for the future.
I was sooo excited about the Wii too but now it just seems like it isn't targeted at me. I love the fact that it is getting others into gaming, I think we needed that bridge, but at the same time I hate that they are ignoring the people that put them on the map. This may be one of the few games aimed at there older fanbase.
I almost feel like that older fan base should just give up on Ninentdo and let them go where ever they want with all the mini-games and kiddy characters. Let those developers and publishers focus on the true next-gen platforms. I just don't see what future there is for a Standard Definition platform except for the immediate and I don't see that people would be happy to get a new console so soon into it's lifespan.
The Wii is getting such a bad rep for the lack of quality games, and it's really disappointing. When the Wii first launched I was obsessed with it and I know that it has a lot of potential. Suda 51 saw that potential and decided to actually do something with it, and that's admirable. Even though this game isn't selling well right now, I hope other developers and publishers will follow his example and treat the Wii as a viable console, not a gimmicky minigame machine.
This is the only game on the Wii that I played for longer than 10 minutes. I think it's a ton of fun, but definitely not for everyone. Particularly the people the Wii marketing campaign is geared at. Still, great fun if you already have a Wii and want something to play. Not a system mover.
I feel the same way. I'm curious about the game. It seems cool. It's just something about the Wii. The only thing I use it for is Wii Sports. I have to check it out. Maybe it will change my mind about the Wii or maybe it will change developers minds about working on the system and then they can make some cool games for the PS3. It seems obvious that Nintendo is taking the game library in the direction it wants. Third parties abandon ship (I mean if you aren't making money anyhow).
i want it but i dont see myself buying it.
