NBA Live 09 All-Play: Wii vs. Dreamcast, IGN preview

I found this article on the Wiicast:

Are they even trying!? I understand the Wii isn't exactly a graphical powerhouse, but this is just lazy. NBA Live 09 All-Play is scheduled for release on Sept. 23, so I don't think there'll be a significant difference in graphics by then. As for gameplay, here's a preview article from IGN by Bozon:

http://wii.ign.com/articles/882/882683p1.html

  Main points of article

  • Still has traditional, "advanced" play like last year
  • Family Play has changed into the All Play design
  • Same easy controls, but now accompanied with gameplay aids on screen
  • Different control schemes: Wii-mote only, remote and nunchuk, opt for the advanced controls and difficulty, or even tilt the controller sideways and play in a classic "NES-like" button layout with minimal motion control
  • Feels less like a sim and more like an arcade game
  • Alley-oops are easy to pull off
  • Few changes to on-screen HUD and interface
  • Miis are referees and also displayed on gameplay aids
  • New IR passing method: You click to pass and arrows show up as passing paths to players, some glitches but works well so far
  • Star players will have smoky trails and fiery basketballs when they shoot
  • Player icons will change from blue to green when a dunk is available in the paint
  • Uncontested shots will go in with ease
  • Not much of a graphical upgrade from last year
  • Play Now mode: now has 5 on 5 and 2 on 2, NBA Jam-like powerups for 2 on 2, can play as legendary players
  • Modes: season mode, playoffs, superstar challenge, all-star game, rookie challenge, and online mode
  • Players are more realistic (i.e. Shaq can't rain down threes and free throws like a madman)

Despite my complaints about the graphics, I'm actually looking forward to NBA Live 09 for the Wii. I didn't pick up last years version because of all the bad reviews. With a robust list of modes including online play and an interesting passing method, all EA needs to do is refine the gameplay. Please don't screw this up.

this game is much worse than last years. i was ranked number 2 online last year and was hyped to start my quest for number one. i got the game home and put it in and was horrified to find that this game is not worth the money. i've been playing it but it's really not worth it. i guess if you own a wii and really want to play a basketball game then it's worth picking up but ea really needs to dig their heads out of their rearends and make a good game for a change.

WOW! They look awful. I've seen better graphics on a cell phone game!

Uhh, hating? The Dreamcast is an awesome system. It was mentioned here to compare two basketball games and point out that there is hardly a difference in graphics. Which is bad, considering the Wii is a current-gen system, and the two games are eight years apart.

You're right, they do look more colorful, but I was hoping for more texture. If you look at the IGN Pictures, you'll see that the audience looks horrendous. They barely look like people. More like paper cutouts. Graphics aside, the gameplay and modes seems cool so far.

The graphics on the Wii do look a lot more colorful. Characters are either really ultra skinny or their pictures are in widescreen and scrunched together.
