- For the love of Game Music!!

Good Daaaaay to you.
So it's about a quarter to six that I stated to type this up. I'm full of pizza and I feel like I want to puke because i'm so full. I hate feeling like that....
Anyway, I've becoming quite addicted to a band called "Anberlin" who I've known for a while, but haven't particularly listened to until now. So, I am playing Zelda: Twilight Princess and I wanted to listen to my Ipod while I play. So, when I start to play, I like my music loud. I like it so that that's all I can hear. I do it in my car all the time. I love my music to the point where you can feel it in your ribs. Well, I'm playing and then I knoticed that I'm taking quite a big of damage because I keep focusing on my music. Maybe I should turn it down.
So, tell me. What is your choice? Would you play with or without music? If you do, tell me who you listen to.
For me, I think my choice of music would probably vary from something as so light as Deathcab for Cutie or Cute Is What We Aim For, all the way down to... oh let's say... The Fear Before The March of Flames. I really am picky of TFBTMOF only because they are really hit or miss with me. I'm rather really into them, or I'm like "this shit is whack, yo". Lately I've been kind of addicted to:
Anberlin
UnderOath(for the 4th time)
Dir En Grey(for the 3rd time)
Say Anything (2nd time)
Mindless Self Indulgence
A Skylit Drive
Alexisonfire
BaySide
Enter Shikari
Paramore (... shut it.)
Sabrepulse(I heart Saberpulse.)
and there are other bands, but I only listen to like... a few songs.
But, let me know. Tell me what your choice of music is when you play videogames. Anyone have any suggestions?

I love the ability to stream my entire music library on my 360 and listen to it like it was part of the game. However, this doesn't work for every game.
Games like Mass Effect or Bioshock, where I'd say about half of the entire experience is from the audio, are actually less fun to play when you have music playing.
A prime example of great games to rock out with would be games that license music from real world artists. When this fad first started, I was pretty keen on the whole idea, however, now it just seems like the developers got a little lazy.
(Not to mention, 90% of the time I disagree with the musical selections in these games.) I don't need to hear Staind or Disturbed when I have 85+ GB of quality hand picked music at my disposal.
I will say that it can be distracting. I have gotten chainsawed many a time in Gears because I was air drumming to Mars Volta or Converge.
As for my personal song selection, well, it depends more on my mood than what I'm playing. I have been known to dismember quite a few demomen and soldiers in TF2 while listening to Frank Sinatra, Death Cab For Cutie, or Regina Spektor. And blasting some Refused, Bad Religion, or Hope Conspiracy while tearing up in COD4 or GoW really gets my adrenaline pumping.
While I do prefer a game with extremely high quality adaptive audio, for the most part, it is a feature I like to have, for that one night when I'm feeling especially feisty, listening to Soundgarden, or even movie soundtracks, while I dish out some serious hurt.
Hey!
As an (unpaid) composer of (mostly) game music, I prefer the music in the games. If it's so bad that I have to mute the volume, I sell the game. Seriously. The music in games means a lot to me, because it helps stimulate emotions and enhance the general mood. Also, since I mostly play RPGs, the music takes on a bigger role than in, say, a GTA game (or something similar).
If I'm power-levelling to beat a really tough boss, however, I usually mute the volume. But then I mostly listen to stand-up comedy.
Now see, the only reason I like the X-Box version of GTA: Vice City is because I can put my music into the game. Otherwise, that game looks like crap. Let me tell you, it is quite effective to be gunning down some hoes, listening to Electric Youth by Debbie Gibson. :)
I used to listen to music while gaming until I really got into the music that was in the games themselves. So I would be playing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 while listening to En Vogue. :P
I prefer in-game music.
Gaming music gives me a much stronger emotion & rush to playing games that are immersed in it. Some scores & sound tracks are absolutely amazing in adding the mood to a game but some can detract from them (*cough* a lot of EA games unfortunately *cough*).
Games that have soundtracks I love listening to...
Einhander
Mechwarrior 2
WarCraft II
The Witcher
Ridge Racer 7
Gran Turismo 2 Groove Tracks
R-Type Final
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Prime
Hellgate: London
Crysis
Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
Half-Life
Half-Life 2 + Episodes 1&2
Portal
BioShock
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Tron 2.0
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
Dracula X: Circle of Blood
WarCraft III
StarCraft + Brood War
...and many more. :)
The radio most likely but in other cases nothing but the sounds of head kills. :P
I play music all the time while gaming. It makes me feel so comfortable.
not to criticize your taste in music but....dir en grey...aw come on!! they can barely speak co-herent english lol
sorry, just ignore me:D
the only time i've ever listened to other music while gaming was when I would listen to weird al while playing super smash brothers
I know a lot of people like to listen to music while gaming, but I've never done it. I like the game music; helps me feel submerged in the experience.
And I have noticed that sometimes I do worse on songs I love in Guitar Hero or Rock Band because I just get too into it! So it would probably be a bit of a distraction for me. I get distracted pretty easily. Ooh, what's that shiny thing over there?
Newgrounds.com has alot of cool game music remixed and free so if you want to hear some great beats go there I do all the time
I listen to music all the time while a play. Conquest by The white stripes when playing Battlefield, and "Lightning strike rescue op" from The Life Aquatic when playing anything else. It gets me in the mood.
I'm so sorry for all the typoes. x.x
