The New Home Of The Technosexual
Posted About 1 year ago by Lord of Whimsy
Apparently the term Technosexual is the "new word of the week" to replace familiar terms like geek, nerd, techie, etc. The earliest citation of the word apperared on March 8th, 2004. From what I gather, the term is supposed to be the opposite of metrosexual. Here is a good description: "With metrosexuality, it's about style, fashion, culture, and grooming for the straight male. A metrosexual man may be seen at an NBA game one night and an art gallery opening the next," says Ricky Montalvo, the man who wants to take technosexuals mainstream. "We take it one step further by adding technology. A technosexual man may not need to go to the NBA game because he can get highlights and scores via SMS or by browsing the web on his PDA while at the art gallery." —Katharine Miller, "Enter the Technosexual," AlterNet, March 8, 2004 A lot has changed since ’04 and certainly one thing is for sure, there are a lot more women who fit into the tech world than had even been acknowledged back then. The result is we’re all included in the new age of linguistics. The new tech speak. Hooray for the living language. Of course like most things it’s been corrupted by pea brained thinkers into meaning “sex with robots”. Now that’s entertainment. Hey, you can refer to yourself by any term you choose, but if you truly have gamervision, (a gamers point of view) then you probably think that technosexual fits you pretty well. On the other hand the word geek has become the new chic. Wasn’t it Huey Lewis who said “it’s hip to be square”? So the answer to my question is that we are the new home to a lot of different people, and whatever name or group of people you see yourself as. We welcome you. Join us, or surely we will come apart.

My definitions:

Geek - Somene who is heavily into something that is not considered "cool" or "mainstream" (a la Star Wars, Comic books, Star Trek)

Nerd - Someone of high intellect and low social skills. Interchangeable with "Dweeb"

Techie - One who is well versed enough in technological matters to make others feel stupid.

Technosexual - The sex with robots thing.
