We Whee the Wii
Posted About 1 year ago by Lord of Whimsy
Lately everyone I talk to wants to chat about the Wii. There's no question that this system has opened up a whole new line of gamers. It's become the great new party game. It's like Twister with technology. Everybody can play, take turns or cheer from the sidelines. The variety of games that can be played almost assures that there's one game for every ones taste. Whether it's, bowling, golf, boxing, or, silly as it sounds, fishing. It so reminds me of the days when people would get together and play charades and pictionary. There's a reason they're called "party games". How many times does your party end up with the gang just sitting around talking, drinking beer and listening to music? Most times. (not that there's anything wrong with that) But now I see that changing. This game console has opened the door to a whole new generation of interaction and inter-activity. The other thing I see is the broadening of the age spectrum. This kind of game play has lured an older crowd of married with children folks. They've set aside their scrabble and monopoly boards for the moment and are enjoying this new phenomenon. It's a fun world Nintendo has in store for people and I for one have been persuaded to get on board. Once more to amuse me.

Great blog! It's great to play the Wii with 2 or more people but alone it sucks! So yeah it's a great party system.

I completely agree good sir! Wii parties are all inclusive, and more importantly, stochistic. They occur at their own will, pulling people in ever so gently, and releasing them in the same fashion. Further, events are not necessarily dominated by the Wii, as in a Halo party, or other highly masculine FPS get togethers. You may come and go as you please, which makes the console very inticing, from the bold to the sheepish.

Although I have set my board games aside, I wouldn't say I've thrown them on the scrap heap. For me, the Wii fits in nicely along with Backgammon, Charades, and Triominoes. Its all just games.
