Volcanic Thunderstorm: You're Only Human

The ground is rumbling in Chile with the eruption of the Chaitén volcano, beginning last week after 9,000 years of silence. Much like the charge created by the collision of ice particles in a regular storm, the ash, rocks, and ice in the plume pictured above by National Geographic have a similar effect resulting in a "dirty thunderstorm". As if violent molten lava wasn't humbling enough, this stunning show in the sky is enough to remind us we're only human.

More pictures of this hauntingly beautiful sight after the jump.

Craftsman 1470 Piece Tool Set

I'm not the most handy person in the world, but I can hold my own and take care of myself. I can hang a picture, paint a room, and assemble anything from IKEA by myself, and for me that's enough. Though I will probably never need a 1,470 tool set, I'm still impressed. It's like a giant toy collection!

Now you can finish all of those loose end projects around the house, and your neighbor's house, and their neighbor's house too with this monstrous tool set. Craftsman provides everything you'd probably ever need from basic tool to professional, even specialized and automotive tools, in one set. Hell, you could fix the entire neighborhood. While $8,600 may seem pricey upfront, I'm sure men spend a whole lot more on tools in a life time. Plus, if you got the goods to do the work, you could probably make enough dough to pay it off.

The Craftsman 1470 pc. Professional Tool Set is available from Sears. If you can't afford to dish out $8,600, you can still buy bits of the set for cheaper prices in the $100's.

Squeeze It! Solution For Your Toothpaste Woes

Toothpaste tubes are difficult. No matter how much you try to keep conscious track of squeezing from the bottom to make best use of the paste you've been allocated for a given price. But no matter how much you try, there will always be that morning when you're groggy enough to pee in the laundry basket. All it takes is one squeeze to the center of the tube and all your hard work goes out the window. Damnit!

Lucky for us the Squeeze It! can prevent wasted toothpaste (not counting the wasted toothpaste that falls off your toothbrush). Looking a bit like a cheese slicer, slip the bottom end of the tube through the slit and move up to, well, squeeze! Take that toothpaste tube! You thought you could control me but guess what! You can't!

My sourse claims that a pack of 2 goes for $4.00, but Amazon claims it's $36.00. That seemed a bit suspicious being beyond outrageous. So, I googled it only to find it being sold individually for $2.49 from Organize.

Howl's Moving Castle

If you're a fan of Hayao Miyazaki, you've probably seen Howl's Moving Castle. Sure our stubborn and sometimes childish sourceror, Howl (dubbed by Christian Bale, how dreamy), didn't really live in much of a castle but rather a steampunk's dream fort. A dream moving fort come true, that is. At the Maker Faire this life sized (though much smaller) rendition of Howl's Moving Castle made an appearance, putting every couch cushion fort I've ever built to shame.

I'd definitely knock on this Otaku's door before Howl's any day. At least this thing doesn't look like it will eat me up.

See-Through Post-It Notes

Post-Its are hard to live up to, they're just so universally useful. Now we got see-through ones? I could probably come up with a solid list of things they'd pull through for, too. Yeah, there'd be no Post-It sibling rivalry here. What we got now are two studying aids that are going to work together to make your life easier. Imagine all the text books that you either devalued by writing in, or had to take complicated notes and make outlines around and stuff. Now you CAN write on top of the page itself. And highlight? Ahh! I could have so used you in the past see-through Post-Its. But let me tell you this, I WILL use you in the future.

We all knew students loved Post-Its but guess what? Post-Its loves students back.

3D LED Lighting

You think you've seen LEDs? Pfft, you haven't until you witness the works of Swiss Federal Institute of Technology's NOVA. Built for the 150th anniversary of the institute this 3D LED display hangs in the Zurich train station's main hall and will remain there untill September 2009. Made up of 25000 bulbs, it's no surprise this thing weighs 3.3 tons. The fact that it can display 16 million colors per second on the other hand, is quite a surprise. I'd like to see you try that, Lite Brite.

$2.49 for that toothpaste thing sounds reasonable. I would probably end up buying it if I saw it in a store, just like that volcanic thunderstorm. 1 plz
