Game Addicition

OneWhiteGamer's artical got me thinking.  We all hear the stories about Koreans dying at their keyboards or marriages ending over World of Warcraft and such.  I'm curious to anybody else's stories of video game addiction.  I'm sure somebody out here has either struggled, seen someone struggle, or simply given into video game addiction.  I would like to either hear your side of the story or hear random encounters with marathon sessions we all know went on just a bit too long.

I have two female friends I can think of off the top of my head that left their boy's because of games.  One was WoW and the other was Starcraft.  The Starcraft one was actually engaged and decided to leave him after he shoo'ed her away from *ahem* "pleasuring" him while he played the game.  She was going to let him keep playing and everything, too.  It was just too "distracting", he said.

Me, personally, I have several stories.  First one that comes to mind is when Prince of Persia: Sands of Time first came out.  I know, I know, not the type of game you'd think.  However, I fell in love at hitting the X button.  Played 6 hours straight and beat the game in one sitting.  Only break I took besides bathroom breaks was to eat dinner with the family.  (I was still in high school)

Another was the one time my friends got me to play WoW.  I had refused to play it for the longest time.  I saw them and how they were with it.  They stopped being fun or really wanting to do much besides play that damn game and I wanted no part of it.  I enjoyed having a life, what little there was of it.  However, I gave in once.  ONCE, and only once.  They hooked me up with one of their guest accounts, sat around on their own computers, and we played.  I played an hour or so and had fun.  It really was as involving as they said.  I was thinking I might stick with this and maybe get it for myself.  That's when I looked at the clock.....

Yeah, my brain was lying to me.  It hadn't been a couple hours, it had been eight.  EIGHT FRICKEN HOURS THAT I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE.  I stopped right there, shut off the game, said "I'm done", and never touched the thing again.  I normally don't have what I'd consider an addictive personality, but DAMN.  Yeah, that's the closest I've ever been to addiction with games.  If you feel comfortable sharing yours, please do.  I'm curious.

I broke my video game Addiction... with a more expensive and time consuming addiction. lol I started to really get into paintball, and then after I began to play a lot more often, and tinker with my equipment, I began to play less and less. now I only play once every few days. Now, i pwn noobs not with a controller, but with paint, and my baby, I call her, Lucy.

Hi my name is Jess and I'm addicted to DOTA. Not only is this miserable because nobody knows what it is, and when you try to explain it to people you can't help but use the words "Custom Map" and "Warcraft III" which immediately put people off and make them think I'm a lunatic.

I cannot sit down and just play one game. I play short mode, so each game is about an hour long, but I have literally spent entire days in front of my computer playing DOTA.
The worst thing about it is that the people who play it make me mad- team mates AND rival teams...
I usually feel worse after playing it than I did before I started, but the game is so fun and tactical and rewarding when you pull of ridiculous stuff.

*Counter- Strike 1.6 almost made me fail a few of my classes before I moved on to Source.
*I spent a solid day and a half awake with a 2 liter of coke and a bag of doritos to work on my Animal Crossing GCN town.
*If I start playing Counter-Strike at 11:30, it will STAY 11:30 in my mind. (meaning, i look up, and its 3:30)
*I slept outside 31 hours for a Nintendo Wii. (Wrote a log about it too)
*85 chain on Ikaruga, Trial One on medium.
*Used to travel for Super Smash Bro: Melee tournaments
*I made myself throw up so I could stay home and beat Majora's Mask when it was released.

Wow. Reading Hamz and Sarah's comments reminded me of all-nighters with new games with friends. My friends and I would make nights similar to movie marathon nights, but, instead play a game or two. We finished both Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 in this fashion. It was marvelous. We even went so far as to play through a second and third time sometimes depending on how fast it took our six minds to get through the game the first time.

Oh, and I totally said I was sick to skip school, too! I think we're [mostly] all guilty of that little sin!

I had a bad EverQuest problem back in the day, also faked sick at least once to get some time in on that. Also, me and three of my guy friends used to play Warcraft III all night, every night during winter break my junior year of college. Seriously, 10 PM to 5-6 AM, Warcraft III, for several weeks on end. Haven't played since.

When a mod for Half-Life called Sven-CoOp was released, I was HOOKED.

I mean, playing through the single player Half-Life game with 15 other people was just SICK. I had a dial-up modem at the time and had started the download of the mod and then went out to play home run derby.

When I got home, it was ready to go, and about 9:00 PM (Give or take).

I played through the entire single-player game with the same six people in one sitting. It was after 5 in the morning when we killed that bastard Nihlanth.

That was the first time my mother had to yell at me to go to bed as she was getting up for work.

I also convinced my parents I was sick and stayed home from school to play TFC just after it was released. I spent at least 10 hours playing it that day.

I once played in a four hour CTF game on the first Unreal Tournament. It was crazy. No one could win. By the time I noticed that it was 3:30am, or so, we finally lost. It didn't matter at that point whether my team won or not. What did matter is that the round went for an exaggerated time that shouldn't have been so long. I mean four hours for a simple game of CTF! That's screwed up in my book.

The one game that got me the worst was ROSE Online. I started playing back when it first came out and I never looked back. I would spend all day on that game. Since I'm home schooled it's pretty easy to spend all day on it. Oh and I still play ROSE Online but, not as much.
