- The Frugal Gamer - KwonHo: Fist of Heroes
- Posted About 1 year ago by Osyris Glitch
I have been unmercifully pummeling the ever loving crap out of contender after contender and I feel pumped. I'm 3 seconds from running into the street and challenging the first living creature I come across, be it stray cat or elderly woman. I will fight them all. I will win.
You'll have to excuse me. I get rather excited after playing a new fighting game. Let me rephrase that. A new good fighting game. Remember button mashing? Yeah, so do I. It was simple. It was effective. It was fun. But there was a science to it. You couldn't have an epileptic meltdown on the controller and win every time. You had to know just when to throw in that directional button.
KwonHo brings back those fond memories of pissing your best friend off after beating the snot out of him in Super Street Fighter II Turbo and it does so with attitude to spare. Holy Jeebus, this game kicks ass.
My name is Fresco, I'll be your waiter tonight. The special is fist smashed face served with a blood sauce. Come get some, wussy.
Vertigo Games sends this beat 'em up to U.S. shores from Korea via Ijji games (the same publisher as the stateside release of Gunz: The Duel. The game is pretty straightforward. You create a custom character, decide what style of fighting he or she will use (there are 5 to choose from), run through some tutorials and then you're unleashed into the lobby to challenge and smack down anyone you see fit. The controls are amazingly simple. I was smashing faces in no time. As you fight (and level) your way up, you'll be awarded points that can be spent on new moves and combos as well as clothing and other items. As with many other free MMOGs, there is a shop with exclusive items that can be bought with real cash.
I'm sorry. I couldn't hear you over the sound of me kicking your ass.
There is no story, but who cares? It's a fighting game. The only real drawback is that this game is unfinished. Yeah, so I decided to review a game that's in beta. I'm sorry. It's just so damn fun. You can, however, still sign up and play between the hours of 2 pm and 11 pm PDT until May 23, depending on where in the U.S. you live. Anyone on the East server, come find me. You will feel my fists! Nyyyarrrrrgh!!!! Oh, I just broke a table. I was never here, okay?
