Ah, Cooking Mama. A game that has absolutely no right to be as much fun as it is. The whole premise of the game is making recipes, and unlocking new ones. So basically you cook fake dishes on your DS. Doesn't sound like much fun until you hold it in your hands, and then it is flat out addicting!
I have the DS version, but there is also a version for the Wii, which is just as much fun. You pick your recipe, and Mama will tell you what to do. You simply follow her steps right through to the end, and depending on how you did, you will earn a gold, silver, or bronze metal, and possibly a new recipe. I believe there are 76 total.
The real charm of this game is Mama herself. On the Wii version, she talks to you in the most wonderfully awful stereotypical Japanese voice ever, but you don't get that on the DS. If you get a perfect score, her eyes light up, and she gets a dreamy look, and says you are just as good as she is. If you do well and get a silver, she closes her eyes and claps her hands. But the fun part is failing and earning a bronze metal. She clenches her hands into fists and her eyes LIGHT UP ON FIRE!!!!! It is the most crazy thing I have ever seen in a video game.
This game is great for any person of any age. I play it, and my 7 year old son loves it so much that he begged for his own copy! My nieces love this game, as do my nephews. Heck, my mother even bought herself a DS to learn how to play this game! I highly recommend it to everyone.

You are right, this game is so silly that it shouldn't be fun but for some idiotic reason it is.
Everyone should learn to cook, ever heard of food for the soul?
I was getting into this game, although it was a bit of a mind f*ck. I remember very life-like sounds and visuals, but no smells. And your mind expects to smell things when you're cooking...
