With GTA4 a mere month away(thats right, for those of you that don't know, it comes out in March). I had to play through this again. This game is a lot of fun and could easily pass as another chapter in the GTA franchise.
the game starts off with the main character walking down the street, checking out girls when all of a sudden a gang pulls up and does a drive by. the chracter ducks and ends up being saved by another gang called The 3rd Street Saints that occupy a part of the city they call, The Row. After you get initiated you do various missions to take over the city and eliminate the 3 gangs, which are the Vice Kings, Rollerz, and Los Carnales. However, unlike GTA, in order to do the story missions, you have to complete side missions to fill your respect bar up. The side missions include tagging over rival gangs tags, taking hostages, randomly killing rival gang members, hitman activities, hijacking missions, chop shop requests, recruiting hos for pimps, escorting hookers, street races, and defending your gang's territory.
Overall the graphics are really good(water, people, physics, car damage, etc...) and the gameplay is fun. It took me awhile to go from racing games that use RT to accelerate the car to using A to drive the car on Saints Row and RT to shoot the gun. But other than that, I really don't have any complaints with this game. It was fun and theres good replay value.The hours worth of pedestrian conversations are even funny. So why not give it a perfect 10? Simply because I can't find anyone to play the multiplayer with and a few tweaks I thought would of made the game better.
Oh and i forgot to mention...theres even random pedestrians in drink and hotdog costumes for you to beat up, shoot, run over, or blow up!

this review kicks ass
Perhaps the 'money making decsion' to hold off GTA4 was simply to bury the Saints Row franchise. It's apity, Saints Row was a good little stop gap till GTA4 arrived.
i just started up on the first one again and i am having alot of fun.
sweet! 2008 is going to kick so much ass in the gaming industry. with GTA4 coming out in mid march and then Saints Row 2 in April. I cant wait!

yea saints row is already 2 years old and i didnt find out about saints row 2 till veggie told me.
Saints Row 2 is already in the works so to speak.....
Loved this game. At first I scoffed at the fact that it's almost an exact clone of GTA: SA, but the acting is excelent, the story's thin, but fun and the combat is actually better than GTA's. I'm hopeful about GTA IV, but now I'm almost equally excited about the Saints Row sequel. Great review!
