- My Pokémon interpretations
- Posted 7 months, 4 weeks ago by RIDLEYhowmanytimesmustIpwnU
When I'm not busy doing my school work or drawing my own monsters, I often fantasize about how Pokémon would look rendered in my style....
I'm not a big fanartist but when I get the urge to do something its usually video game related. And the number one game of choice is my beloved Pokémon. Inspired by a friend at GV, I've decided to upload the work in progress pieces to the final product and a detail.
I often times work on a 17X22 canvas because I don't want to be restricted to how my figure is going to flow.
Stage 1: in the first panel, its clear that I've already got a tight pencil drawing ready to be inked. At this point (before I fully start to ink), I step away from my work and decide if it looks okay to me or if I need to add a certain element that'll bring more depth to the illustration. At this stage, I will usually ask a friend what they think about it and tell them what I want to add to it and thats when I get their artistic opinion. I got good advice about adding that third eye to my Kadabra interpretation. I am pleased:D
Stage 2: Since I'm working in colored pencil, I first of all lay down my flat color that'll be my undercolor. I don't press too hard because I want to be able to blend as I'm adding more colors to this piece. And I stroke my pencil the way things need to flow (i.e, how the mane and the tail and the whiskers will be flowing).
Stage 3: Even though at this point it looks like I skipped a lot of steps I really didn't. I just kept blending with my pencils to acquire a more solid look. I usually use between 5 to 6 colors so that I doesn't look like I'm using basic colors when all the coloring and blending is complete.
The final image is a detail of the facial region. I feel this part has the best detail and care with the blending.
When I work this large, I have to scan in my illustration in pieces and assemble it in Photoshop. So that in itself is an art form...a difficult one.

I am a true Pokemon hater, but your skills are undeniable. Very nice stuff. Show me some superhero stuff and I'll be REALLY impressed.
Wow, this is really cool. Pretty original and stylish. I love it.
:3
Love it still.
Gengar LOLZ. actually, i've gotten a list from people on DA on which pokemon I should render next.
I'm usually not the biggest fanart...fan, but I love this. Gengar next!
