- New York Comic Con 08: Civilization Revolution First Impressions
- Posted 8 months, 3 weeks ago by Sarah
I know Sid Meier’s Civilization series is a long-running one, but not being much of a PC gamer, I never got on board with the previous Civ games. However, today at Comic Con I had a chance to play the upcoming Civilization Revolution, due out this summer for 360, PS3, and DS, and I’m pretty sure I’m already hooked.

The core concept of building up a civilization from Stone Age to space age is still the same, and ridiculously addictive. I probably could have stood there all afternoon making my warriors attack barbarians and building libraries. According to a rep for the game, the idea will now be to go through history in the course of an afternoon; it will only take three or four hours to build up a society. Of course, since every game you play will be completely different based on the choices you make, it should still have a high amount of replay value.
I played the 360 version, and the controls handled nicely. I didn’t get to see the DS version, but I would imagine it uses stylus controls in some way. A side-by-side comparison between 360 and PS3 versions of the game did not show any noticeable differences, so the question remains: which to buy? And also, why have I never played a Civilization game before?

I've been dying for this game, and to see it in action makes me want it even more. This game will deliver. The only thing that is holding me up is the decision for which system.
I almost failed out of college because of a combination of a MUD called Eternity's Trials and Civilization. I feel like I'm ready to go again.
I kind of skipped Civ 4, but I will try not to skip this one. I love Civilization.
