- Blue Dragon 2 To Be MMORPG?
- Posted About 1 year ago by Sarah
I adore my Xbox 360, but I often wish that there were more quality RPGs available for the system. After all, I love my role-playing games. Blue Dragon, a Japanese RPG released in the U.S. last August, was a lot of fun for me and I highly enjoyed it despite the game having some technical issues. A potential sequel sounds like a neat idea to me.
Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has said that a Blue Dragon sequel is indeed being planned, and that “there's a possibility that it will be produced as an online title." While that statement is not exactly clear, it’s not too big a stretch of the imagination to think that Sakaguchi may be hinting at a Blue Dragon MMORPG.
While I loved the world of Blue Dragon and would have no problems exploring it again, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I haven’t played an MMO since EverQuest many years ago and feel no need to ever play one again, even if that means being left out of a series I enjoy. If I didn’t get into Final Fantasy XI, nothing’s going to do it for me. I’m also not sure that Blue Dragon was enough of a hit to warrant this kind of gameplay. While it had some good reviews and a decent number of fans, are any of these people come back to play online? I’m not sure.
Then again, nothing has been confirmed, so it’s probably a little too early to jump to conclusions. Even Sakaguchi said that the game is still in the “possibility” phase. My personal hope is that we will see Blue Dragon 2 in the not-too-distant future and that it doesn’t change up its classic RPG formula too much. Only time will tell.
