This is the kind of story that I find really hard to write about, because I keep stopping to think about how angry it makes me and how sad some people are. It’s no secret that I get offended when uninformed jackasses try to get a bit of attention by making video games into a scapegoat and blaming the industry for all of the planet’s violence. Unfortunately, it’s a growing trend that garners a lot of notice, and apparently destroying all credibility is worth it to jump on this ridiculous bandwagon.

The latest offender is a national British newspaper offering the public “hundreds of pounds” for stories of how video games turned them to crime or violence. I really wish I was kidding, because this seems like some kind of sick joke, a parody of what is actually going on with the media in this day and age. Unfortunately, it’s the truth. The British publication posted an advertisement on the internet begging corrupted gamers for their tales:

"A national newspaper wants your story and will pay hundreds of pounds to the right person.

Write a few lines about how computer games turned you to crime and if it's something we like, we'll call you straight back."

You know, if I was a different type of person, and if British pounds meant anything to me, it would be fairly easy to write up “a few lines” about how playing Doom II inspired me to go on a rampant killing spree, and Grand Theft Auto turned me to a life of beating up prostitutes for their cash. After all, nothing in that ad stated that the stories had to be true!

I don’t even have the words to deal with this type of situation anymore. Congratulations, British press, you are officially pathetic.
