- EA and Hasbro To Make Games Together
- Posted 11 months ago by Sarah
Oh, EA. Some people like to make fun of you, but not me. So what if you like to buy everything in sight to eliminate the competition and lower your own standards? The groundbreaking company that brought you such noteworthy titles as Madden NFL 2007 and Madden NFL 2008 has now struck a deal with Hasbro to bring a series of video games to casual gamers.
Now, keep in mind that Hasbro, a toy and game company, owns a lot of cool properties. This part here is where I would normally make a snarky comment. However, a quick Wiki search knocked the sarcasm right out of me, and I was transported back to my childhood, watching Jem and the Holograms and playing 13 Dead End Drive. Hey, I thought, maybe this isn’t such a bad idea after all.

Of course, after actually reading the press release, it appears that EA isn’t going to actually take advantage of anything cool that Hasbro owns the rights to. Instead, it’s first going to release Littlest Pet Shop and Nerf N-Strike for the Wii and DS later this year. Also, if you can hold your breath long enough, they’re also developing Monopoly and Scrabble games. The game of the year search stops here!
Come on, guys! Board-games-turned-video-games have been around since the 8-bit era. Give me something new and exciting, and maybe then I’ll actually be impressed. Until then, I’ll weep about the future of video games. A Nerf game where you don’t actually get to shoot your friends and co-workers in the face when they least expect it? How is that fun?
The full press release:
“EA and Hasbro want to give families new ways to enjoy games; we want give them a new way to come together, connect, spend time and have fun around the TV or online,” said Chip Lange, vice president and general manager of EA’s Hasbro Studio. “Bringing the spirit of these games to life as video games has allowed us to create really unique and creative experiences for families and friends of all ages to enjoy together at home or online.”
”We are thrilled that together we are bringing our great toys and games to life in the digital world and providing consumers with new and dynamic ways to enjoy our amazing brands,” said Mark Blecher, Hasbro’s senior vice president of Digital Media and Gaming."
