- EA Officially Goes Hostile in Take-Two Takeover
- Posted 10 months ago by Sarah
What has been predicted has now come to pass: EA is officially getting aggressive in their attempted takeover of Take-Two. They tried to be civil about it, making Take-Two a couple of offers that they thought were more than fair, but Take-Two executive chairman Strauss Zelnick has rejected them all. It now appears that EA is done playing nice.
EA has now decided to go over Zelnick’s head and appeal directly to the shareholders of Take-Two. They hinted at this option a little while ago, and it appears that now it’s official. EA’s John Riccitiello had this to say about the takeover:
This is a great opportunity for Take-Two shareholders. We believe Take-Two investors will see our tender offer as the best way to maximize the value of their investment in Take-Two. This tender offer provides a clear process to complete the proposed transaction. For EA shareholders, the combination would add additional intellectual properties to our already strong portfolio and welcome Take-Two's talented creative teams to the great development organization we've built at EA.

I don’t know how EA’s takeover will affect Take-Two’s best properties, like the Grand Theft Auto series. As we all know, GTA IV is due out April 29, and EA is clearly looking to cash in on what is sure to be a major seller. Hopefully, whatever happens, EA won’t stifle the creative minds at Take-Two, as they have had some great games to their name. Only time will tell what the outcome of this hostile move will be, but a takeover seems very likely at this point.

To bad EA thought it was a good idea to stop developing good games, they just rather buy them and slap the EA sticker on it....
