Ubisoft today announced the minimum system requirements that would be needed to play Far Cry 2 on PCs when it is released later this year. According to the press release, Ubi wants “to make Far Cry 2 as accessible to everyone as possible, and we have worked continuously to optimize Far Cry 2 to achieve this goal.” Accessible to everyone with a higher-end PC, that is. Here are the specs, as provided by Ubisoft:

Shader Model 3 required
256 Mb of graphic memory
Memory: 1 Go
Media reader: DVD-ROM
Recommended

ATI® X1650 – 1950 series , HD2000 series , HD3000 series , HD4000 series
What does that mean? I have no idea. It might as well be written in Chinese for all I can understand it. However, I have consulted my friend Coop, who informed me that the requirements are comparable to Crysis. Of course, let’s not forget that this game is also coming out for the Xbox 360 and PS3, where the requirements are that your console works. Sold!

The best part of being a PC gamer is the year directly after building a system, in which you can play any game and feel really awesome about it. The subsequent 3 years until you are finally forced to buy a new computer...not so much.
I am in that first year, and I will revel in how sweet it feels.
I can pay University with the money I'd have to pay to upgrade my system.
I wonder if I could still play I have a 2.0ghz for my labtop and 4 gig's of ram
I'm good, actually. Pentium 4 4400Ghz, 2 Gigs Ram, Geforce 7900.
I can just barely run it on my PC.
I think I can just barely get it going...
I'll prob end up getting it for 360 anyways.
Sweet. My beast will eat this.
