With all of the anticipation for Final Fantasy XIII, the next true installment in Square Enix’s most epic RPG series, it’s easy to forget all about Final Fantasy Versus XIII, the other PS3 Final Fantasy game the folks at Squenix have been working on. It was announced shortly before the release of Final Fantasy XII back in 2006, but very little information has come to light about the game since then. Now, it appears that Versus has been put on hold indefinitely, according to the latest issue of Famitsu.



The reason for the hold-up is, in my opinion, actually a very good one: production on Versus XIII was suspended so that the Final Fantasy team could focus on Final Fantasy XIII, which should be released, I don’t know, sometime within the next millennium. In all seriousness, with the potential launch of Final Fantasy XIII slipping further and further away (we know we’re not seeing it in 2008, and I’m not even sure about ’09), it’s about time Square Enix buckled down. I’ve been waiting for a next-gen Final Fantasy since I bought my PS3, so I’d like to actually have one before next-gen becomes last-gen.
