Metal Gear Solid 4 Must Sell a Million Copies on Launch Day
Posted 8 months, 3 weeks ago by Sarah

The Metal Gear Solid series is one of the most popular video game franchises in history, and with the upcoming fourth installment supposedly being a PS3 exclusive, Sony fanboys everywhere have had something to cheer about. However, it’s now being reported that production costs on Metal Gear Solid 4 are so high, Konami will need the game to sell one million copies on the day it comes out just to make up for it.

Buy me or I’ll kill you!

This may be possible if the game has a worldwide launch, but in the U.S. that would mean half of all PS3 owners would have to buy the game on day one. This seems like a bit of a stretch and is an example of why there are so few third-party exclusives in this era of gaming; it’s just not cost-effective. Sure, almost everyone I know with a PS3 will be picking up the game at some point, but will it be enough to cover the extreme costs for Konami? Only time will tell.

I love MG, but all of this seems so fitting for a game that is so highly anticipated and yet been plague with set backs for release. The more you work on it to get it right the more its gonna cost you, Kanomi. It feels like Axel Rose with his new Guns and Roses album, where he is never satisfied with it so it doesnt come out fr 10 years. Except that I actually want this. I want it, but I wont get it for a long time and by then they'll be working on MGS7, so I hope it sells, but even if it doesn't, I'm sure they will make it all up at the end.

I'm growing a mustache until this game comes out. And if it doesn't sell a million copies day one, I'm going to keep it! Seriously, I'll look like Jeff Kent, without the muscles. Or the charm. Honestly though, if this game doesn't sell a million copies on day one, that could only mean the night before, all the people who own PS3s decided to burn their money in a Wicker Man. The good, crazy Christopher Lee one.
