New Star Ocean 4 Info
Posted 7 months, 2 weeks ago by Sarah

Confession time: I’ve never played any of the Star Ocean games, although I have heard many good things about the Square Enix RPG series that originated in Japan in 1996. Despite it having installments on both the PS1 and PS2 in the U.S., I somehow missed out completely. However, I don’t intend to make the same mistake again when the next-gen Star Ocean finally makes its way to consoles.

Star Ocean 4, as it is called at the moment, doesn’t yet have a date or a platform, but some new details have emerged about the game. Most interesting to me is that the developers originally wanted to call it Star Ocean 0, as it serves as a prequel to the rest of the series. That’s good for those like me who have never had a chance to play any other Star Ocean games, but longtime fans will be pleased to find many connections with other games in the series.

Also revealed is that the real-time battle system from the past games will make another appearance, which, from what I gather, may be similar to Final Fantasy XII’s fighting mechanic. While I love turn-based fighting, I’m always interested in trying out different battle schemes in other RPGs. I’ll be following this game as it develops, so stay tuned for more information. Hopefully Star Ocean 4 will have a tentative release date and a platform before too long.

I only played Star Ocean 3 (PS2), and it was pretty cool. The story was excellent. Interesting that its a prequel, hopefully it'll answer some more questions about the last one.

@binaryfiend - White Knight looks pretty awesome.

I'm excited about this too. I also haven't played the games yet but I've read the reviews and people talking it up. I'm currently trying to catch up on my Final Fantasy mythology (going back and playing the old games) but I can never have enough RPGs. Should be a while till this one comes out. Gives me time to finish some games.

The game I can't wait for the White Knight Chronicles. It looks cool but won't come out till this time next year. Sheesh.
