No Tony Hawk Game in 2008
Posted 3 days ago by Sarah

The Tony Hawk series, which started out ridiculously popular and critically acclaimed when it launched on the PS1 in the late 1990s, has been getting a lot of criticism in recent years. The last few installments in the franchise have been mediocre, and though I personally thought the last game, Tony’s Hawk’s Proving Ground, was an improvement over Project 8, it couldn’t even compare to the infinitely superior Skate. Sales numbers only proved this further, as Skate outsold Proving Ground 2 to 1.

Proving that Activision isn’t quite as blind to reality as Bobby Kotick sometimes makes the publisher seem, the company has announced that for the first time in a decade, there will be no Tony Hawk video game coming out this year. This is very surprising given Activision’s original 2008 plan of adding on another sequel to every franchise they’ve got, and considering that they have reported sales of $44.2 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2007.

This could turn out to be a positive thing, and if Activision is willing to spend some time and revamp the Tony Hawk series instead of simply shoveling out another installment every year, I would definitely be on board with that. However, it’s more likely that the company will just devote time to further milking the Guitar Hero franchise dry with more lackluster sequels and spin-offs.

Thank god. The series died for me after THPS2, which actually is still one of my favourite games of all time. FYI: I'm a master at it. Oh yeah.

Thats weird I just thought I heard Tony saying that the next game was supposed to be a reinvention of the series......could this have been influenced by the new Skate sequel that EA is working on?
