Rumor: Guitar Hero IV to Include Vocals, Drums, Song Creation
Posted 6 months, 1 weeks ago by Sarah

I’ve said it countless times, but I’ll repeat it once more: ever since the release of Rock Band, I’ve had no reason to play Guitar Hero. Activision clearly knows that their musical franchise is in trouble, despite its money-making history. So when Guitar Hero IV is released later this year, it’s entirely possible that the game will look more like Rock Band, complete with drums and vocals.

This rumor comes courtesy of Kotaku, but this isn’t the first time this tale has made the internet rounds. It makes sense for Activision to add more instruments in order to compete with Rock Band. Even more interesting is that Guitar Hero IV will potentially feature a “create a song” mode, which neither of the music games currently has. Supposedly, players would be able to make their own guitar and drum tracks and upload them to share.

If this is true, it may be a step in the right direction towards saving the Guitar Hero franchise. However, I’m not sure if adding more content is enough for me to overlook the ways in which the last entry in the series fell short. Activision, before you start tacking more stuff on, get rid of the boss battles and take some notes from Harmonix on how to do DLC. Then maybe you’ll get me to pay attention again.

They seriously NEED to get rid of boss battles. They're so annoying. This is another example of Activision burning out a decent series with unnecessary additions (see Tony Hawk).

Harmonix developed Guitar Hero for Activision. The GH license and peripheals belong to Activision. So it wasn't like Harmonix just gave it away because it wasn't their's to begin with.

So, Harmonix decides it's done with Guitar Hero and gives it to Activision. Activision then is babies about letting the guitar that Harmonix GAVE them work for Rock Band stating it's "theirs". Harmonix finally just says "wtf ever, just keep it. We don't need it". Then Activision comes up with this load of crap. Kinda losing the "Guitar" part of "Guitar Hero", huh? Just because your Tony Hawk series is finally going under doesn't mean you guys have to be d-bags about your one saving grace.
