Tim Schafer Threatens Brütal Legend News This Month
Posted About 1 month ago by Sarah

In the last few months, I have made a habit of reading Tim Schafer’s blog on the Double Fine website, even though there’s often nothing game-related on there. The man is just really funny, and it makes me giggle to read about his infant daughter failing at Wii Fit, or the wig he found in a parking lot. This may be because Tim Schafer is just as brilliant at blogging as he is making video games, but it also may be because I am a total Schafer fanboy (fangirl? Whatever). Anyway, I do have a point, and it is related to Brütal Legend, which has been floating around in limbo since Activision/Blizzard ruthlessly dropped it due to it being “creatively risky”. (Translation: not a sequel).

It appears that seeing Jack Black and gameplay footage at the VGAs isn’t all we’ll hear from Brütal Legend this month, as the News Threat Level on the Double Fine blog has just been raised to “Haunted Sandalwood”. This falls between “Metallic Chartreuse” and “International Ochre” and means, according to Schafer, “Omg I think there may be some news this month”:

Dang, just when I thought it was safe to waste some time, HAUNTED SANDALWOOD sneaks up from behind and goes “Boo!” in a vaguely-brown sort of way.

Frightening! But I can’t help it. My bunions are telling me there will be some sort of news this month and I have to listen. (You try to go back to sleep when your bunions are whispering in that creepy voice. It’s not easy.)

What’s that? How could we skip Charred Topaz and Metallic Chartreuse? You got whiplash? You’re not comfortable moving this fast? Well, it’s not called the “News Comfort Level,” is it?

Oh, Tim Schafer, you’re so silly, and I love you for it. Let’s hope that this news equals an announcement of a publisher for Brütal Legend, and maybe even a release date. Before long, the News Threat Level might be at Irreverent Periwinkle: “News is here! Run for your lives!!”

If I ever meet Tim Schafer, I'm going to ask him to marry me.

OOOOooooooOOOOooooOOOOOoooooOOOOooooo!

Is that enough "oooo's"? Nothing like a game brought to obscurity by developers and publishers coming back with BREAKING NEWS within three months of its intended release date.

I hope the news is that Brutal Legend will be out tomorrow and that they already sold enough pre-order copies of it to finance the next game independently.

And that Tim Schafer wants to be my best friend...
