- Wii Homebrew Adds ScummVM
- Posted 6 months, 3 weeks ago by Sarah
Here’s the thing. I try to be good, take excellent care of my systems, and generally not break the law. However, the talented people that manage to hack both console and handheld devices and put some of my favorite games on them make this very hard for me. The newest temptation? The latest Wii homebrew, which has gotten ScummVM up and running for the Wii.
What does that mean, exactly? Well, the ScummVM emulation engine was created so that gamers could play classic point-and-click PC adventure games that they already owned on current computers. However, it’s also been used in illegal system hacks to put these games on systems that they were never designed for. This video, found via Kotaku, shows one gamer playing the LucasArts classic Full Throttle on the Wii. Not heard: my cries of jealousy.
See, this makes me angry, because I would gladly pay real American dollars to obtain this, and other LucasArts adventures, legally on my Wii, but no one is making it possible for me to get these games. It obviously can’t be that hard, since people are making emulations on consoles left and right. Maybe someday LucasArts will catch on and realize it still has properties that are ripe for milking.

Hence why I hacked my PSP.
I had the thing since launch, and I rarely used it. Now I can't put it down, since I can play the entire libraries of NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PSX, and ScummVM. It also has the ability to play .iso's or current PSP titles, which is something I'm kind of torn on using, and still functions normally when you put a new UMD in it.
That being said, I don't know if I could ever hack my Wii. I love it and would be so sad if it broke.
Looks like I am cracking open my Wii with a crowbar to make this work. Awesome!
