MLB Power Pros - Wii
Posted About 1 year ago by Sarah

For another opinion on this game, read here!

Name: MLB POWER PROS

Genre: Sports, Baseball

Platform: Nintendo Wii

I had mixed opinions about this game before I even played it simply because it was made by 2K Sports, the same company that disappointed me so badly with The Bigs on the Wii. However, it had cutesy little baseball players on the cover and looked like it was actually made with the Wii in mind. Since my Wii has just been sitting in a corner, waiting to be played for the last few weeks, I thought I’d give it a shot.

Some of you may remember me saying that I love old-school baseball video games, like the ones we saw in the 8-bit and 16-bit days. I’m really big on one-button hitting, one-button pitching, and simple fielding controls, because I don’t think there’s any real need for sports games to be needlessly complicated. That’s why I checked out MLB Power Pros: it looked like a fun pick-up-and-play baseball game.

On the Wii, you can choose between motion-sensitive and non-motion-sensitive controls, and unfortunately, I did like the non-motion-sensitive controls better. That’s a shame because I’ve been waiting for a full-length baseball game for the Wii that actually handles the motion-sensitive controls intelligently (and enjoyably). However, using the remote and nunchuk for standard baseball controls was easy to figure out and actually made sense. They just made it so easy to play a fun, quick baseball game.

I was a little disappointed by the fact that you couldn’t use your Miis in the game without the motion-sensitive controls, but that didn’t really make a difference in the gameplay. The career mode is intriguing; you have to help a college player get to the pros while balancing all of the other tasks of his daily life, including a girlfriend and a part-time job. However, I couldn’t see myself sticking with the game long enough to play out an entire career.

Is it a revolutionary baseball game that’s going to take your Wii by storm? Not really. Is it a fun distraction between other games? Sure. I didn’t pick it up expecting a brilliant game that was going to change the way I thought about sports games forever. Maybe the fact that I wasn’t expecting too much was why I wasn’t horribly disappointed by it. MLB Power Pros was enjoyable for a little while, but not something I would recommend investing in at its current price.
