GAMES I'M PLAYING RIGHT NOW
|
-
Loved the first one, feel some emotion that is stronger than love for the sequel.
-
I had forgotten how good the multiplayer was in this franchise. I've been learned.
-
E-A-G-L-E-S! Eagles!
-
Fun, joy, funjoy.
-
Me and the little lady like to get our versus on.
-
Take six letters, and make as many words as you can in two minutes. Addictive time-suck.
-
-
Although the top two execs at Visceral Games jumped ship, I still hold out hope that the studio's second game (the first being Dead Space) will be another terror-filled experience.
-
Big fan of stealth, big fan of WWII. Could be good.
-
Never played the first two (which I aim to rectify), but can't wait for this one.

Seriously guys, let's get this fucking game out already.

Still holding out hope...

An amazing feat of programming, the attention to detail is what makes this an all-time classic. From the radio commentary, to the storyline, to the voice-over work- there is nothing about this game that misses.

The Legend of Zelda (Series)
|
details
|
I wasn't sure which Zelda game I wanted to include on this list, so I just decided to put them all. In all honesty, it's so hard to pick a "best" of this amazing franchise. From the NES to the Wii, and the DS too, each re-telling of this same tale has been among the top games for their respective console. So many games have been influenced by so many aspects of Zelda that it's hard to think of a more influential video game license.
-
The first horror survival game that I just couldn't put down. Beyond the amazing gameplay, terrifying monsters, and killer weapons, one of my favorite things about this game is the fact that you can replay with all of your upgrades intact. Dead Space has this same feature, and because of that, there is a good chance that Dead Space will someday make this list.
-
Yes it's trite to put the end all and be all of puzzle games on this list, but I'm so much better at this game than you are that it would be borderline illegal for me to not include it.
-
Once the money code became common knowledge, a lot of the fun went out of this game for me. It seems to me the only game in the Sim series that is more fun to play without the money code than with.
-
Another game (like Sim City) that benefits from a cheat code. I had a cousin with whom I would spend endless Saturdays playing all the way through this side-scrolling classic. Contra 4 for the DS re-captures a lot of that magic (and has original Contra as an unlockable extra).
-
Not any of the video game versions. I prefer the traditional Alex Trebek-hosted nightly trivia fest. Again, as mentioned in Tetris, I am far too good at this game for it to go unmentioned. Some day, Jeopardy will make me very rich.

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
|
details

I know it might be strange to add a glitchy, fancified version of Bejeweled to the "All Times" greatest games list, but for a solid year of train riding, I played nothing else. Its beauty is in its simplicity.

THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE
|
-
The all-time champion. Epic in scope, script, performances, length, cinematography, score, settings, and all other aspects. This film is the pinnacle of the medium.
-
Before George Lucas showed us the dirty, dingy side of interstellar travel, Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke (arguably the two greatest manifestations of their respective industries) teamed up to give us this stark, sterile look at the future. Never before or since has a single diode light terrified people to their cores.
-
A live action Looney Tunes cartoon. Danny Elfman's score, Tim Burton's direction, and Paul Reubens's complete commitment to character make this one of the most memorable comedies of my childhood. As iconic as they come.
-
Call me a Kubrick fanboy if you must, but this is the apex of the horror movie. Very few killings, very few weapons, but a level of terror that is unmatched.
-
Although it is a bit hackneyed, over-long, and formulaic, this film gives a view of war that every world leader should be forced to watch before taking office. We can speak on the beauty and nobility of it all, but there is very little beautiful or noble going on during the Normandy beach invasion sequence.
-
A Tarantino script given far better treatment by a director than Quentin himself could have done. There isn't a single scene in this movie that isn't amazing. And take a look at that cast list: Slater, Hopper, Walken, Gandolfini, Pinchot, Oldman, Kilmer, Arquette... a veritable who's who of 90s movie cool.
-
A cult classic, maybe a bit "overrated" in terms of fanboy following (like, I'd never go to one of those annual Lebowski Fests). Still, the Coen brothers have never been this good. Name me a line from Lebowski that someone hasn't quoted to you at some point. You can't do it.

TV SHOWS I WATCH (PAST AND PRESENT)
|
-
This show is going to get cancelled because no one but me is watching it. And then it's going to get "discovered" on DVD and people will say, "Oh why didn't I watch when I had the chance? Oh woe is me! Why didn't we listen to Sean?!" By then, it will be too late.
-
Don't believe the nay-sayers: this show is as good as it has ever been. Most people will tell you that it was better when "Person X" worked on it, but the show is as consistent as ever. For twenty years, the funniest show on TV.
-
As an improv comedian (of a very low level) one thing that I can appreciate in a comedian is commitment to character. Not since Andy Kaufman have we seen someone who is so lost in the character they've created for the world as we see in Stephen Colbert. Don't believe for one second that you know where he really stands on the issues. The man on the Report is not the real Stephen. But he is a funny motherfucker. I daresay that this show has surpassed the Daily Show in relevance and humor.

Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Tex Avery
|
details
|
What would childhood have been without Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, Tweety, Spike, Rocky, Marvin, Mel Blanc, and all the others? Has mankind ever used music as well as MGM did for the Tom and Jerry series of shorts? Have wolves ever been more lecherous? Nothing, no, and no.

|
Monty Python's Flying Circus
|
details
|
My parents essentially raised me on this show. I knew British slang far before I knew there was a reason to refer to it as that. I just thought that was how adults talked! Some of the bits have become very played out, but they're still classics.
-
|
The Adventures of Rocky the Flying Squirell
|
details
|
Few cartoons give kids an education in the classics, mythology, fables, and political satire without the kids knowing its going on. Along with Monty Python, this show was a staple of my childhood. They stand the test of time far better than most products of that era.

MUSIC YOU SHOULD ALREADY BE LISTENING TO
|
-
This former lead singer of the influential 80s band Pixies has proven himself an amazing songwriter and musician. With a very New Orleans-inspired sound, his most recent efforts sound more like folk or country. And what a voice!
-
Philadelphia's premier hip-hop, funk, live music act. Beats to shake your ass to, and lyrics to change the world.
-
Rockabilly from Brooklyn. Once described to me as "Tom Waits and the Rev. Horton Heat giving birth to an ugly baby." and I can't disagree.
-
Everything DJ Danger Mouse puts his hands on is incredible, and the two albums he has collaborated with Cee-Lo on are amazingly soulful, rhythmic escapes.
-
With lyrics to rival any of the Romantic poets, and musical influences that span Renaissance Faires, 70s roller rinks, Middle Eastern rites of passage, and sea shanties, this Portland Oregon act will be long remembered.

Do you remember my friend Eric? Black dude who was always around playing games. I managed to convince him to pick up a 360 after playing RE5 with him on the PS3. Playing Gears 1 with him co-op. I'll have him send you an XBL friend request. His GT is mccoyer001.
I'll have to add you on the PSN.
I used to use the site a while back then got turned off to all social sites and deleted my profiles. I missed it so I came back. I can never get enough gaming news/talk.
Any news on setting the L4D playdate with MS? I want to have a gamenight in the next week or so since the survival pack hits soon.
What works best for GV staff(weekends or weeknights)?
Ian actually made it for me months ago. It took him like 10 minutes. it would prob take me two days.
you are welcome
