GTA IV's Dating Prompts Threat from Jack Thompson
Posted 9 months, 4 weeks ago by Sean

You've doubtless heard by now that Rockstar announced the street date for the much-anticipated (and occasionally delayed) Grand Theft Auto IV. If you haven't heard, it's coming out April 29th.

Well, just as sure as night follows day, Florida-based ambulance-chaser Jack Thompson is already throwing around the threats about his inevitable reaction to the content that is sure to further America's digitized march to the apocalypse. In case you weren't aware, Mr. Thompson and Rockstar don't exactly see eye to eye.

GamePolitics had this statement which it attributed to Thompson:

Take-Two shares have jumped approximately 12% today on this news.  What the market is not factoring in, however, is the downside risk coming Take-Two’s way with the sale of this “Mature” game to kids, which is a murder simulator for violence against women, cops, and innocent bystanders…

Thompson will, in the days and weeks ahead, be contacting state and federal officials to stop the improper sales of Grand Theft Auto IV to anyone under seventeen years of age, as any such sales violate state and federal fraudulent and deceptive trade practices statutes.

Indeed, Thompson has today contacted Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum, who has supported Thompson’s efforts in the past.

As you can see, Jack is back to his tried and untrue methods of referring to the GTA series as a "murder simulator", as well as his false claims that the developer is responsible for the games' being sold to underage consumers.

As Rockstar has decided to fight back against this kind of libel, it should be interesting to see what happens first: the release of GTA IV, Jack's tying of the game to an unrelated murder, or the ruling determining whether or not Jack Thompson will continue as a licensed attorney

I like that he refers to himself in the third person. "JACK THOMPSON LIKES HIS CHICKEN SPICY!"

*Obviously, I meant disbarment wouldn't stop him from attempting his lifelong dream, I don't think he'll ever actually achieve it. Good to have goals though.

What a joke this man is. Even if he did get disbarred, I doubt that would stop him from his lifelong dream of destroying Take-Two.

Get a life, dude.

It's not the law. The ESRB makes suggested guidelines on game ratings. I believe they should be followed, but there's no real penalty enforced governmentally. Just the same as you won't get in real trouble for selling R rated or PG-13 movie tickets to kids under the age the ratings suggest.
Too bad there's no rating on doucheness.

He's a failure at life. I want to find his email so bad and tell him what I think about him.

i agree. there is nothing wrong with THAT part. but it's just what the man has done and will do. i just have the feeling that he's going to try and get this game banned or something like Manhunt was in the UK.

I see nothing wrong with this. In fact, that's why the ESRB exists.

yea i'm sure i'll slit my wrists with a knife while trying to cut the plastic wrap off the game. or i'll go on a mass killing spree and shout quotes from the game. and i'm sure every one will hit their little borthers or sisters in the head with the special edition safe that comes with the game and kill them.this is fucking ridiculous. i've never met someone that pisses me off as much as Jack Thompson, and i've never even met him. i swear, if he does anything to prevent this game from coming out then i'm going to go vandalize his house, car, and what ever else he owns while shouting phrases from all the GTA games and claim the Jack Thompson made me do it. then maybe his worthless ass will get banned from ruining anything else. god damn what a worthless piece of shit.

i've yet to see a vdieo game kill someone. I can only imagine one day I will open GTA IV and the disc will fly out and slit my throat. that'd be something to see.
