Recently, I
lamented the abundance of pre-Halo 3 hype. The game won't even hit shelves for over a month, and already we've been pummeled with hype to the point of exhaustion. But no amount of hype you've seen so far can prepare you for the blitz that is about to come. Microsoft announced today that it has made promotional tie-in deals with "leading consumer brands" in advance of the release of Halo 3.
And oh, the wonderful products you can expect. Let's see, there's Mountain Dew Game Fuel, described as having, "the same great taste of Mountain Dew with an invigorating blast of citrus cherry flavor and added caffeine for maximum intensity." You can also look forward to drinking your Slurpees from a Halo 3 cup (sorry
Simpsons, you're yesterday's news...). And if overly sugary drinks aren't your bag, you can get your Halo 3 themed fries and 42-oz vat of soda.

Comcast will offer exclusive video content, including user-generated movies and machinima as part of it's ON DEMAND package (standard and HD) as well as on two of its game related websites:
gameinvasion and
ziddio. Pontiac will host Halo 3 themed events, giving gamers a chance to play th game before it hits the shelves, as well as giving away 1000 copies of the game and, "one lucky gamer will win a limited-edition Halo 3 G6 GXP Street car" (Personally, I'd rather win a limited-edition Warthog, but hell, it isn't my giveaway...)
If it sounds like Microsoft is going all out on this, its probably with good cause. With recent
financial setbacks,There's a lot riding on the success of Halo 3. Let's just hope they keep the ads out of the actual game.
