- Bully Banned in Brazil
- Posted 7 months, 1 weeks ago by Sean
It seems like Rockstar Games just can't win. First Great Britian bans Manhunt 2. Then India tries to do the same thing. Sure, Great Britian eventually un-banned M2, but if you're Rockstar, you've got to feel a little dejected.
But it just keeps on happening as another country has joined the banning dogpile. This time it's Brazil, and the banned game is Rockstar's Bully: Scholarship Edition.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Judge Flavio Rabello has outlawed the game's, "being imported, distributed, sold or promoted on Web sites and stores". Retailers and distributors have 30 days to get in line with the ban or risk facing unspecified penalties.
As announced by Rio Grande do Sul state prosecutor Alcindo Bastos, the judge took a look at the possibility of prohibiting Bully after a complaint by a local youth support center. The specific reason given for the ban is that, "everything in the game takes place inside a school" and prosecutor Bastas added, "that is not acceptable."
Once again I hasten to add that these stories of governments intervening in the free market of video games are becoming increasingly common. Whether it's Jack Thompson, the Arizona House of Representatives, or Judge Flavio Rabello, no one person should make a decision on what the masses have access to.
