Rumor - John Madden to be Left out of Madden '09
Posted 7 months, 4 weeks ago by Sean

John Madden has been the voice of the EA NFL juggernaut for over a fifteen years. But according to a cryptic interview given by an EA representative, it looks like we might have heard the last of the great football guru's random rantings.

In an interview with Gamezone's Louis Bedigian, EA audo director Aubrey Hodges hinted to the possibility that there will be a change behind the microphone for Madden '09. He was asked specifically about changes in the sound for Madden '09 and responded:

I have to be careful about this. Although I can… We are making a change in the Madden commentators. I can’t mention who they are. We are using some of the biggest names in the business. We listened to the fans and we are making a change. And that will be more than one. It will be a fantastic year for Madden fans, I think they’re gonna be thrilled with this new direction. I don’t think I can say much more than that.

While he doesn't mention John Madden by name, his comments have started a firestorm of rumor and conjecture that Madden may be shown the door.

In my opinion, John has long overstayed his welcome at the broadcaster's party. I remember watching Cowboys vs. 49ers games in the mid-90s where I thought to myself, "This guy is just embarassing himself." Although I will add that if the alternative is to add Tony Kornheiser, Troy Aikman, Phil Simms or any of the other horrible people that are calling NFL games today, then I say keep on Old Man Madden!
