2008: Games That Will Rock Your Faces Asses Off

Wow, 2007 was a crazy year for games.  Half-Life 2 hit consoles, Portal rocked, Rock Band did it's thinkg, Bioshock, Halo 3, Uncharted, Super Mario Galaxy.  The list goes on an on.  Probably one of the best years ever for video games as a retail entity.  Not too shabby for us fans either.  However, '08 isn't shaping up to be a slouch either.  Here are some prediction of games that will rock you faces asses off.  I've picked 1 per console, plus a multi-platform choice.

PS3 - Metal Gear Solid 4

After Metal Gear Solid 2, many people thought the series was out for the count.  I can't say I blame them.  That game felt like it was rushed together by a team of Japanese chimpanzees participating in an LSD experiment.  However, Metal Gear Solid 3 fixed all of that.  The story was not only coherent, but powerful.  The game was talked about everywhere.  However, a new issue arose.  The lack of radar through most of the game made it very difficult for many players to complete.  This increased difficulty ended up turning off some long times fans from completing the game, my roommate included.  MGS4 has already been said to take the difficulty back to that of the older games.  It also appears to not only include one hell of a story, but even fix some older mistakes.  By older mistakes, I of course mean Raiden.  The bane of the MGS2 player, Raiden seems to be coming back as much more of a badass.

It's really hard to describe why these games are so amazing, but they just are.  I definitely think that this game has the ability to be huge.

Wii - Super Smash Brothers Brawl

So, I'll admit it, I hate these games.  I have absolutely no interest in them.  But, I am in the minority.  These games have a ravenous following.  Any person with enough guts (and some nose plugs) to walk into the gaming competition room at any anime or gaming con will tell you that there are people who take these games very seriously.  With the addition of online play, I think that this will easily be one of the biggest Wii games for '08.  Like I said, this game means nothing to me, but then again, if you own a Wii, what else is coming out?  The balance board?

360 - Too Human

So, sure, I could have said Halo Wars or Gears of War II as both of those will definitely happen and definitely ship a ton of units.  However, I'm no sheep.  This game has been on my radar since it was first announced.  Devil May Cry gameplay with a Sci-Fi epic storyline based on Norse Mythology and Nietsche, what more could you want?  Honestly, if one game is going to make me buy a 360, this is it.  If this thing lives up to 75% of the hype surrounding it it will be amazing.  This could be the overlooked smash success of the 360 in '08.

Cross Platform - GTA IV

Well, cross platform has changed it's meaning.  With the Wii's underpowered hardware, it has to be excluded form the concept.  So, sorry.  GTA is a series of games that I have an odd history with.  The old school style top-down versions stole my heart.  I couldn't get enough of them.  GTA III and on didn't really do too much for me.  Something about introducing a story line, but having it totally suck.  I also feel as though they really made the games linear.  Sure, you can beat up any hooker at any time, but in reality you had to do things in a set order.  First work for the Italians, then the Asians, and so on.  But, I'm not one of the millions of people who are addicted to these games.  GTA is one of the hottest games on the market right now.  Television news is helping to fuel the hooker killing controversy while Rockstar rides the media blitz straight to the bank.  While it may not be returning to it's roots as I hope, this iteration is definitely improving it's game.  High-res graphics, a more expansive city, and more realistic interactions will likely lead this to be one of the highest grossing games of 2008.

If your game didn't make this list, don't cry.  This is simply my opinion on what will be the biggest games on each platform.  There are many more great titles that are coming out, but it think these will make the biggest waves and will totally rock your faces asses off.

I cant wait for Killzone 2. I was probably the only person I knew who played the original, and I loved it. Also the cell processor can help make really nice looking mustaches...
